Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

Here's a challenge for partners in committed relationships who appreciate horror films: Settle in with your loved one and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like standard body horror, but inside Together lies a deep examination about how we choose to love each other.

An Introductory Film Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a special spark to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie move from the metropolis to the countryside for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical story element, sure, but that’s primarily where the cliches conclude. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their new home, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim fall into an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a strange force begins influencing the couple. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a gradually intensifying horror experience, weaving in moments of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes amidst something horrific). The director orchestrates these parts seamlessly and wraps them up in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his struggling artistic pursuits inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and distant from his network of friends. He is terrified of the concept of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for mobility.

Shanks’ smartest move in Together avoids making Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie confront the type of challenges that come with long-term unions a decade in. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to a partner, the allegory does not come across as clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama work together symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that single viewers have seen the movie as a compelling reason for staying single. On the other hand, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could function as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your other half and state, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can embark on today.
